Most Read Bible Verses---#9---Matthew 28:19

Matthew 28:19 (NLT)
“Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations…..”

The Greek word for “go” in verse 19 is “poreuimoi” that means “to travel”, “to go on a journey”.  What Jesus was really commanding His disciples was this----“As you are going, make disciples of all nations.”

So, what is Jesus saying to you right now?  He’s saying that every day, as you live your life, and go wherever you go, you are to be “making disciples”.  It’s an everyday act of obedience.  From the moment you dedicate your life to Jesus Christ, He expects you to fulfill this Great Commission by doing all you can to “make disciples”.  This is not just the responsibility of pastors and evangelists, it is the responsibility of every Christian and that includes you.  And, it is not a responsibility that you do once in a while, you are to do it “as you are going”, as you are living your life on a daily basis.

Practically what does this mean for you, to be “making disciples”?  It means behaving as a follower of Christ, that your words, actions, and thoughts represent your faith in Christ.  Earlier in Matthew, Jesus said that we are to “let your light shine before men in such a way that they see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven” (Matthew 5:16).  By showing acts of unselfishness and thoughtfulness, by speaking words of encouragement and kindness, and by demonstrating a lifestyle that shows humility and contentment, others will notice and seeds are planted to enable others to know and grow as disciples of Jesus Christ.

Who made a disciple of you?  What did he/she do that so appealed to you?  So, now that you are a disciple, a follower of Christ, what are you doing to share God’s love with the community, with those around you?  Pray about to whom the Lord wants you to apply this Great Commission?  Make it a vow that you will “go” into someone else’s life (or into several lives) and help them to become a disciple of Jesus Christ.

Or, perhaps you are not yet a disciple, you are not sure that you have been saved in Christ, or you need to rededicate your life to Christ?  May the Holy Spirit convict you of the urgency today to pray and ask the Lord to forgive your sins and to accept you either as His new or His returned child in the faith.  Then talk to a known Christian about your decision.
